Who we are

Temple is developed and operated by Temple AI. For privacy questions, contact Temple support through the app.

Scope and purposes

This Policy applies to Temple's mobile app, website, and related services. We process personal data to provide and secure accounts, deliver requested sessions and AI features, remember user choices, process and restore purchases, prevent fraud and abuse, troubleshoot the service, understand product usage, comply with law, and protect users and the service. We do not use sensitive journal, prompt, or emotional-content data for advertising.

Account data

When you sign in, your email address and a unique account identifier are stored by Firebase Authentication. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email address, a provider account identifier, and basic profile information such as your name and (for Google) a profile photo - we do not receive your password.

Stored on your device

Your profile fields (name, date of birth, country), session history, journal check-ins, emotional check-in responses, Flow diary entries, her weekly letters, the short feeling notes described below, notification preferences, discipline and theme preferences, and cached audio are stored locally on your device.

Sent to our servers

When you write to Temple, your text may be sent to our backend, which uses OpenAI to choose which meditation fits and to write her replies and letters. The text of the audio gifts she prepares is written by OpenAI and spoken by Google (Gemini). Temple no longer writes new custom meditations from your prompt.

Microphone

Temple does not use your microphone and does not record audio. Everything you tell Temple, you type.

When you write to her (Tell Her and the home screen)

When you write to her - in Tell Her or in the message box on the home screen - your words are sent to our backend and to our AI provider (OpenAI) to create her answer, and are then discarded. The text of what you wrote is never saved - not on our servers and not on your device. Only a few plain words describing the feeling (for example, "afraid of being forgotten") are kept on your device so her weekly letter can remember how you have been. What you write is also checked automatically for signs of crisis so the app can show supportive resources; this check happens in the moment and is not stored.

Her weekly letter

Her letter is written from the short feeling notes and check-ins already on your device. That material is sent to our backend and our AI provider to write the letter. The finished letter is stored only on your device.

Continuing over several days

If you choose to keep working through something with her across several days, the words you first wrote and short non-identifying summaries of each day are stored on our servers with your account, so each day can continue from the last. This is deleted when you delete your account.

Daily messages

If you allow daily messages from her, those notifications are created on your device. They never contain anything you wrote to her.

Cached server-side

Generated audio and text may be cached so sessions can play back. Custom meditations made before Temple stopped creating them remain stored so they still play: a prompt hash, the generated transcript and audio, selected voice metadata, and non-identifying generation metadata - not the raw prompt long-term.

Purchase data

Purchases are processed by Google Play or the App Store through RevenueCat. We do not collect or store your payment card information. We use a pseudonymous app user ID, entitlement status, transaction and product identifiers, purchased Quick and Deep balances, and historical Flow balances to unlock access, restore purchases, prevent duplicate grants, and reconcile refunds, reversals, chargebacks, and supported account transfers.

Usage analytics

We use PostHog, a product analytics service, to understand how Temple is used and improve the app and website. Analytics may include device and browser information, IP-derived general location, pages viewed, referring page, sign-ins, sessions started or completed (with mode and duration), and paywall interactions. In the app, your account identifier and email are associated with these events. Analytics never receive your prompt text, generated transcripts, journal entries, or Flow diary entries - only event names and non-content metadata such as prompt length. PostHog and similar technologies may use local storage, cookies, or comparable identifiers.

Service providers and disclosures

We disclose data only as needed to service providers that help operate Temple, including Firebase/Google for authentication, hosting, storage, and voice generation; OpenAI for written AI output; RevenueCat and the applicable app store for purchases and entitlements; and PostHog for analytics. We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce our terms, investigate fraud or security issues, protect safety and rights, or complete a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of assets. These providers process data under their own terms and privacy commitments.

Retention

We retain account and server-side continuation data while your account is active, and delete or de-identify it after account deletion unless limited retention is reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, transaction records, dispute resolution, or legal compliance. Generated session text and audio may remain in de-identified or non-account-linked caches so the service can operate efficiently. Purchase records may be retained by RevenueCat and the app stores under their policies. Analytics records are retained according to our provider settings. Local data remains until you clear it, delete your account, or uninstall the app, subject to device backups controlled by you or your platform provider.

International processing

Temple and its service providers may process data in the United States and other countries, which may have different data-protection laws from where you live. Where required, we use legally recognized safeguards for international transfers.

Your privacy choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or an objection to certain processing, and to appeal or complain to a data-protection authority. You may exercise available rights through the app's Settings and support controls. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. You can also limit website analytics through browser controls and device settings, although blocking storage technologies may affect site functions.

What we do not do

We do not sell your data. We do not send prompts, transcripts, or personal summaries to analytics. We do not share your session history or personal information with advertisers.

Children's privacy

Temple is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, contact Temple support through the app and we will promptly delete it.

Deleting your data

You can permanently delete your account at any time from Settings using the Delete Account option. This removes your Firebase sign-in record, personal server-side content, and local data on this device. A local-only clear option is also available, or you can uninstall the app. Store subscriptions must be canceled separately through Google Play or the App Store. Temple retains only limited pseudonymous commerce and account-deletion records when reasonably necessary to reconcile purchases, refunds, reversals, chargebacks, and supported transfers, prevent duplicate value, and block activity on a deleted account. These retained records do not contain your email, name, prompts, journal content, generated audio, or meditation history. See Account Deletion & Data Removal for details.

Security and breaches

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards intended to protect personal data, including HTTPS/TLS in transit. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach occurs, we will investigate and provide notices required by applicable law.

Terms and Conditions Last updated July 30, 2026

Agreement to these terms

By creating an account, signing in, purchasing, or using Temple, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Temple. If you use Temple for an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind it. You must be legally capable of entering this agreement; if you are under the age of legal majority where you live, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to these Terms for you. Temple is not directed to children under 13.

What Temple is

Temple is a meditation and contemplative practice app. It uses AI to choose a guided audio session for you from what you write or the card you select, and to write her replies, letters, and gifts. Temple is not a substitute for professional mental health care.

Using Temple

A Temple account is required to use the app. You can sign in with Apple, Google, or email and password. Paid access is managed through Google Play, the App Store, and RevenueCat. The Settings page lets you clear local app data from this device.

Content generation

Temple sends what you write to our backend server to choose a meditation for you, to write her replies and letters, and to prepare the audio gifts she makes. Temple no longer writes new custom meditations from your prompt. We do not sell your prompts.

Paid access

Temple offers optional paid access billed through Google Play or the App Store. Temple Plus is a monthly or annual subscription that includes unlimited Quick and Deep sessions, the whole meditation library, your thread, letters and gifts, saved healing history, and an ad-free experience. Flow State is a separate one-time purchase that adds 10 Quick meditations and 3 Deep meditations. It does not unlock Temple Plus. Without a subscription, an account receives 3 Quick sessions and 1 Deep session each week.

Your responsibilities

Please use Temple for its intended purpose: personal contemplative practice. Do not attempt to misuse the service or circumvent usage limits. Temple is not a substitute for professional medical advice, therapy, or treatment.

Safe use and assumption of risk

Do not use Temple while driving, operating machinery, or in any setting where reduced attention could create danger. Stop a session if you feel unwell, distressed, dizzy, or unsafe. Meditation and contemplative exercises may not be appropriate for everyone; if you have a medical or mental-health condition or concerns about whether a practice is suitable for you, consult a qualified professional. You remain responsible for your decisions, actions, surroundings, and use of the service.

Not for emergencies or crisis

Temple is not an emergency or crisis service. It cannot provide urgent help and is not monitored by clinicians. If you are in crisis, thinking about harming yourself, or in a life-threatening situation, contact your local emergency number immediately (911 in the US) or a crisis line such as 988, the US Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988). Outside the US, contact your local emergency services or a recognized crisis line in your country.

Temple may automatically show supportive words or crisis resources when certain language appears in what you write. This is an automated feature: it is not reviewed or monitored by any person, it may miss or misread a situation, and it does not contact anyone on your behalf. Do not rely on Temple to detect, respond to, or escalate an emergency.

AI-generated content

Temple’s guided sessions are generated by artificial intelligence for general contemplative and relaxation purposes only. AI-generated content may occasionally be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for your situation. Use your own judgment, and do not rely on Temple for medical, psychological, legal, financial, or other professional advice.

Your content

You retain any rights you have in prompts and other content you submit. You give Temple a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, transmit, reproduce, and process that content only as reasonably needed to provide, secure, and improve the service and comply with law. Do not submit content you lack the right to use, content that unlawfully identifies another person, or illegal, abusive, or harmful material. AI output may not be unique, and other users may receive similar output.

Temple content and service changes

Temple and its software, design, branding, audio, text, and other service content are owned by Temple or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the service for non-commercial purposes under these Terms. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features, remove content, or restrict or terminate access when reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, misuse, nonpayment, or operation of the service.

Disclaimer of warranties

Temple is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any content will meet your expectations.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Temple and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue, business opportunity, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the app, content, AI output, third-party services, or unauthorized access. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to Temple will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim or twenty US dollars (US$20). Nothing in these Terms excludes liability or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Temple and its operator from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your misuse of the app, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.

Dispute resolution

If a dispute arises, you agree to first contact Temple support and try to resolve it informally in good faith. If it cannot be resolved, you and Temple agree that disputes will be resolved through binding individual arbitration rather than in court, and that each party waives any right to participate in a class or representative action, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Temple’s operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Nothing here prevents either party from seeking relief in small-claims court where available.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the revised Terms and update the effective date, and when required we will provide additional notice or request renewed consent. Changes apply prospectively from their effective date. If you do not agree to revised Terms, stop using Temple and delete your account.

General terms

If any provision is found unenforceable, it will be limited or removed only to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will remain effective. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them as part of a reorganization, financing, merger, acquisition, or asset transfer. We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by events beyond our reasonable control. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and applicable Purchase Terms are the entire agreement concerning Temple.

Purchase Terms

Temple Plus membership

Temple Plus is available as a monthly or annual auto-renewing subscription. Temple's US reference prices are $5.99 per month and $39.99 per year. The annual price is equivalent to about $3.33 per month and is about 44% less than twelve monthly payments. The price, currency, taxes, and final amount shown by Google Play or the App Store at checkout control the purchase and may vary. Temple does not promise a free trial or introductory offer. Temple Plus includes unlimited Quick and Deep sessions, the whole meditation library, your thread, letters and gifts, saved healing history, and an ad-free experience.

Weekly access without Temple Plus

Without Temple Plus, an account receives 3 Quick sessions and 1 Deep session each week. The weekly allowance resets Monday at 00:00 UTC. The weekly allowance is used before purchased sessions.

Flow State

Flow State is a one-time consumable purchase. Temple's US reference price is $2.99 and it adds 10 Quick meditations and 3 Deep meditations to the purchasing Temple account. The price, currency, taxes, and final amount shown by the store at checkout control the purchase and may vary. Purchased sessions do not expire and are used only after the weekly allowance is spent. Flow State does not automatically renew and does not unlock Temple Plus. Historical Flow purchases remain available for recovery and playback but are no longer sold.

Account, transfer, and recovery

Flow State is credited to the Temple account associated with the verified store transaction. Sign in to that same Temple account on a new or reinstalled device to recover the balance recorded on Temple servers. Restore Purchases can restore a recognized Temple Plus subscription and may finish an interrupted purchase verification, but a fulfilled consumable pack may not appear as a separately restorable store purchase. Packs cannot be manually gifted or transferred inside Temple. If the store or RevenueCat reports an official account transfer, Temple may move the remaining balance to the reported destination account.

Auto-renewal

Temple Plus subscriptions automatically renew at the price and billing period shown by the store unless canceled before renewal. Flow State does not renew automatically.

How to cancel

Cancel Temple Plus anytime through your Google Play or App Store settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period - you retain access until then.

Refunds

Refund eligibility and requests are handled by Google Play or the App Store under their policies and applicable law. Temple does not collect payment card details or process store payments directly. If a Flow State purchase is refunded, reversed, or charged back, Temple may remove unused sessions from that purchase, reverse any remaining grant, and offset sessions already used against later grants so the same purchase value is not provided twice. If the store later reverses a refund, the legitimate remaining pack balance may be reinstated. Nothing in these terms limits consumer rights that cannot lawfully be limited.

Data Safety

Data collected

Temple requires sign-in via Apple, Google, or email. Your email and account identifier are stored by Firebase Authentication. Profile fields, journal entries, session history, her letters, short feeling notes, and preferences are stored locally on your device. What you write is sent to our backend to choose sessions and write her replies; what you write in Tell Her is never stored. Temple does not use your microphone and does not record audio. Multi-day continuation text is stored with your account and deleted with it. Purchase entitlement data, transaction and product identifiers, purchased Quick and Deep balances, historical Flow balances, and refund or reversal records are processed through RevenueCat and our backend.

Data not collected

We do not use your device GPS or precise location, and we do not collect browsing history, contacts, or any data for advertising. The optional country in your profile is a value you enter yourself and is stored only on your device.

Analytics

We use PostHog to collect app usage analytics: events such as sign-ins, sessions started or completed, and paywall interactions, linked to your account identifier and email. Analytics never include prompt text, transcripts, journal entries, or Flow diary entries.

Data sharing

What you write is sent to our backend to choose sessions and write her replies. Our backend uses OpenAI for written content, and Google (Gemini) to speak the audio gifts she prepares. Prompts, transcripts, and diary entries are never sent to analytics or advertising services.

Encryption

All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS.

Clearing data

Settings can remove your Firebase Authentication record, personal server content, and local app data from that device. A local-only clear option is also available. Limited pseudonymous commerce and deletion records are retained for purchase reconciliation, refunds, reversals, chargebacks, supported transfers, duplicate-grant prevention, and blocking deleted accounts; they do not contain your email, name, prompts, journals, generated text or audio, or session history. Store subscriptions must be canceled separately through Google Play or the App Store.

Account Deletion & Data Removal

How to Delete Your Account

You can delete your Temple account and personal content directly within the mobile application or request assistance through the web process below. Limited pseudonymous commerce records are retained as described under What Deletion Keeps.

Deleting within the App

1. Open the Temple app and tap on your Account tab in the top navigation bar.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
4. Confirm deletion. Your authentication record, personal server content, and local app data on that device are removed. Store subscriptions must be canceled separately.

Web Request / Account Deletion Assistance

If you no longer have access to the app, you may request account deletion by emailing support@withintemple.com from the email address associated with your account with the subject line "Account Deletion Request". Personal data and sign-in records will be deleted after identity verification, subject to the limited commerce retention described below and any retention required by law.

What Deletion Keeps

Temple retains a deletion tombstone and the minimum commerce ledger needed to reconcile late refunds, reversals, chargebacks, duplicate grants, and supported purchase transfers. These records may include a pseudonymous Firebase user ID, a one-way subject hash, store transaction and product identifiers, granted or used session counts, remaining balance or debt, timestamps, and deletion status.

The retained commerce records do not contain your email address, name, prompts, journal entries, personal summaries, meditation history, generated text, or audio. They are blocked from creating spendable value after deletion and are kept only as long as reasonably necessary for accounting, fraud prevention, dispute handling, store reconciliation, and legal compliance.
